These are just as much pieces of art as they are furniture.
Elliotts of Newbury, founded by Samuel Elliott in 1870 as Elliott’s Moulding and Joinery Company Ltd, began as a joinery works and later produced ammunition boxes during World War I with a workforce that was 90% women, before shifting to furniture production after the war. The company became known in the mid-20th century for its distinctive mid-century modern furniture, particularly in the 1960s, featuring unique handles, legs, and bases, and showing strong influences from Scandinavian design with sleek lines and teak finishes. Their furniture, often branded as EON, was designed in-house by Norman McCarroll, whose quirky and contemporary take set their pieces apart from other British makers of the era.
These chairs have been reupholstered and are in good vintage condition. Some minor wear expected with age.
